Living Room Crisis Counseling

Healthcare providers increasingly are expected to use counseling skills with clients who are struggling with acute mental health crises, including suicidality. The Living Room Crisis Counseling model (Dangwung et al., under review) was developed at the UT Health Department of Psychiatry’s Transitional Care Clinic in San Antonio. The model integrates evidence-based components from Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Crisis Response Planning (CRP), three approaches to working with clients who are struggling to make needed changes.
