Texas Two-Step

Story

Texas Two-Step is a brief approach for working with people who are in distress or exhibiting problematic behaviors. It is based in Motivational Interviewing and emphasizes two steps or processes. Step 1 is for clients with low motivation/engagement. It emphasizes validation of the client’s experience and building flexibility. Step 2 is for clients who are ambivalent or somewhat motivated. It emphasizes building motivation for change and problem-solving techniques.
The two-step approach can be used by anybody and is applicable across a wide range of healthcare, human service and human care situations.
